Halverson Company Awarded MillerCoors Barley Elevator Project in Montana

New 3.2 million bushel barley elevator in Power, Montana is first in more than 40 years

October 19, 2012 – Salt Lake City, UT – Halverson Company today announced that it has been awarded the project for designing and building a new 3.2 million bushel barley elevator for MillerCoors in Power, Montana on the western edge of the Teton County community. Plans will be presented in January 2013, and construction is set to begin in March. The facility will require 2 million pounds of steel, 30 million pounds of concrete, and 90 concrete tubular pilings to support the eight massive grain storage bins that will each hold more than 400,000 bushels of barley.

“We look forward to building a facility that will strengthen the community of North Central Montana,” said Steve Halverson, CEO of Halverson Company. “We will be working with local companies, including Morris Surveying of Choteau, as we look to outsource as much of the work as possible to local companies and contractors.”

“This is the first time since the early seventies that we have built a new grain elevator,” Steve Rockhold, Director of Brewing Materials Procurement for MillerCoors on the significance of the project. “During the past 40 years, we’ve expanded or acquired existing elevators to increase our capacity.”

The plant’s receiving capacity will consist of two truck pits and a railroad loop. The elevator will be able to handle 20,000 bushels per hour. The design will allow the elevator to receive half of the barley during the harvest season. When shipping, the elevator can process 15-30 rail cars per day. Currently, the railroad offers one train a week to Power.
