GEAPS Safety Training 2012


Intermountain Chapter of GEAPS to Present Grain Entrapment Prevention and Rescue Training


- Training will demonstrate best practices for keeping employees safe when working in and around grain storage bins as well as rescue techniques when accidents happen -


Salt Lake City – June 13, 2012 – The Intermountain Chapter of GEAPS (Grain Elevator and Processing Society), today announced a special safety training seminar on Grain Entrapment Prevention and Rescue Training on June 28, 2012.  The training will be conducted by representatives from SATRA, the Safety and Technical Rescue Association and will take place at Deseret Grain in Burley, Idaho.


“This training seminar will provide a comprehensive, unique, and cost-effective educational opportunity developed for professionals in the grain handling and processing industry as well as the rescue professionals who serve them," said Steve Halverson, CEO of Halverson Company and GEAPS Chapter President. "The instruction provided will be timely and presented in a format that attendees will immediately benefit from."


The seminar is designed explicitly for professionals in the grain-handling, processing, milling and feed industries as well as emergency personnel. The sessions will cover important subjects such as OSHA priority issues; safety standards for grain handling facilities; employee training; and rescue processes and techniques. The first two hours of the training will take place in the classroom, while the second two hours will be a hands-on session to take place on-site and will include simulated grain entrapment rescues.


The seminar is open to all industry professionals as well as emergency personnel from medical and fire rescue units and will take place in two sessions.  The morning session will run from 8:00am through noon and will be tailored to industry professionals. The afternoon session will run from 1:00pm through 5:00pm and will be focused entirely on rescue risks, processes and procedures and is open to any emergency professional.


Attendance is free to all GEAPS members and all emergency personnel. The cost of the seminar for non-members is as follows: 


$125.00 for one; $100.00/person for two attendees; $75/person for three or more attendees
