Over 100 Years of Design-Build Experience

Halverson is one of the oldest and most reputable design-build construction companies in the United States, since 1914, Halverson Company has been shaped by the character of the men who led it.

 John E. Halverson

John E. Halverson

John E. Halverson was a gifted machinist who reconditioned metal rolls that ground grain into flour for the flour and animal feed industries. He was exceptionally dedicated to his customers. During the Great Depression, through bitter cold winter months, John E. often worked from before sunrise until after sunset, with heat from a small wood stove , in order to meet customer needs. This dedication helped earn him the respect of those he served. He knew then that it was all about meeting customer needs, and his customers rewarded him with business that helped him navigate the Great Depression and Worl War I.

Lionel Halverson

John’s son, Lionel, who was passionate about cars as a young man, inherited his father’s talent for machining, and prospects looked good for taking his talent to Detroit. However, his course changed when he met the love of his life, Anne Linton. With the responsibility of a wife and children, Lionel took over his father’s business. Lionel was a tireless worker with high standards for everyone who worked for him. He expanded the business by introducing design and construction services for grain processing and storage facilities in the Intermountain West.

As the economic climate of the post World War II era demanded more grain storage, Lionel’s design and construction business blossomed and has built many of the large concrete grain storage facilities that still exist in the West. On one project in Arizona, a labor union organized against him. The crippling strike almost bankrupted the company, but Lionel was able to finish the project. With the company financially weakened, Lionel cut back services to focus on just corrugating feed and flour rolls.

John L. Halverson

Lionel’s son, John L. Halverson, joined the company at a crucial time. He developed Halverson’s expertise in conveying, processing, and storage equipment. His proficiency to develop solutions with products such as bucket elevators, screw conveyors, roller and hammer mills, and extruders and mixers for the food, feed and fertilizer industries positioned him as a regional expert and helped expand the design and construction side of the business.

Lionel retired in 1971, and John incorporated the business. John had a rare mix of abilities that propelled the business forward. Like his father and grandfather, John had a strong capacity for work. He also was a natural leader, and his employees and customers admired his pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to getting things done. In addition, like his progenitors, John showed a deep sense of personal integrity, earning him the respect of the business community that he served.

Steve Halverson

As a child, John’s son, Stephen, grew up next door to the family business. He had many opportunities to work with both his Father and Grandfather, even going on several business trips with his Dad at a young age. This exposure nurtured within Steve a passion for the business. His father believed that he should learn the business from the ground up, so he began at Halverson as a helper to steel fabricators and construction personnel. After Steve completed his degree in business management, it was a natural progression for him to move into project management at the company. In 2001, Stephen became the fourth generation to take the helm of the family business. He is recognized as an efficient and focused leader, completing projects that exceed expectations, while meeting short deadlines and tight budgets.

Halverson Company’s unique “built to last” culture has been forged by the men that have led the way, with an uncompromising commitment to values that continue to inspire all who work there today. “Come experience a company shaped by time-tested values we call The Halverson Way.”
